Yeah, I was supposed to stream this morning at 8am Eastern.

Obviously, that didn’t happen.

As my wife is now unable to drive, I am on full kiddo-duty, toting the boys to and from school. I have not the time right now to stream.


I miss it. I want to play Dying Light side missions and create more content. For now, it must wait. I apologize.

Is it Possible to Cut the Cord and Keep up with Football/Soccer?

Have you wanted to save money by dropping your television service subscription but you have held back from cutting the cord because you were unsure how you would still follow your favorite football/soccer teams without spending a fortune? Well, I will try it and present to you my findings as I just canceled my satellite service.

First, what are the streaming solutions to consume live sports?

Second, what are the subscription options that make the most sense?

To answer these questions, I present to you my specific use-case scenario. I am a Chelsea FC fan. I also support Real Madrid CF. And I closely follow Inter Milan FC. Between English Premier League, the English League Cup, the FA Cup; the Spanish La Liga and the Copa del Rey; the Italian Serie A and the Copa d’ Italia; and the UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup, there are a ton of options to consider.

Go XLR and multitrack recordings with dual-PC setup (I can’t figure it out)

So, I want to be able to stream to OBS audio track 1 but then separate out the tracks when recording, and I can’t figure it out.

The Go XLR supports numerous “channels”, but some are not seen or recognized by Windows to be added as separate tracks. Bear in mind I have a Go XLR attached to my Gaming PC and a Go XLR Mini to my Streaming PC, and these two boards are communicating with each other via line in/out. One example of my problem is that the Streaming PC does not see a Go XLR Mini Line In, so I can’t add it as an audio channel into OBS for a separate track recording.

Has anyone figured this out? If so, care to share your setup topography?

The Go XLR Mini is broadcasting the line in audio from the main Go XLR as well as the Streaming PC Music and System channels. In this way, all faders control the channels that are included in the stream, and they all go to Audio Track 1 in OBS.

The Go XLR is receiving the Streaming PC Music and System channels to output in the headphones for listening purposes. It is not looping those audio signals back to the Go XLR Mini.

The Go XLR is mixing the Mic, Chat, System (Gaming PC), and Sampler and then sending it over the Line Out to the Go XLR Mini.

The problem I am having is that the Line in on the Mini cannot be added to OBS directly as an audio channel, so I cannot add these items to a separate Audio Track in OBS. Ideally, Music would be Track 2, System Track 3, and Line In Track 4.

I tried using the Windows 10 “listen in” feature to no avail.

I tried using the Go XLR Mini routing table to set Line In to Chat Mic and then adding Chat to OBS, but it caused weird delays and audio quality issues–and did not record even though the appropriate tracks were set in advanced audio properties and in recording settings.

I tried setting the routing table to set Line In to Sampler, but it caused weird delays.

I thought about swapping the Go XLR to the Streaming PC, but it looks like it will cause more problems than it will solve.

I tried sending the Go XLR Line Out to the Streaming PC motherboard Line In, but it suffers from a ground loop noise–despite double isolators. (It might be a different noise issue from one of the other dongles/devices connected near it on the motherboard.)

I did find a how-to video from TC Helicon for using the Go XLR in a dual-PC setup for multitrack recording, but it did not mention what to do in a Go XLR plus Go XLR Mini setup. I just cannot figure it out.

As a result, I’ve returned to my single track Broadcast Stream Mix setup. Sometimes the simpler, sometimes the better.

Any suggestions?


Updated Encoder Settings

I found a solution for me that results on zero dropped frames due to both encoding and render lag.

First, the stream encoding settings are set to 6,000kbps on x264 medium.

Second, the recording settings are set to AMD H.265 30,000kbps.

When the CPU was encoding recordings, it did not like it, resulting in unstable rendering or recording lag in intermittent pockets. Now that the GPU is handling the recordings, it is entirely stable: zero dropped frames across 6 hours of streaming.

I guess I don’t need a RTX card now!

Streaming and Encoding Settings: what has worked and what hasn’t

I stream from a Ryzen 3800X CPU and Radeon 480 8GB GPU PC. I have been experiencing small amounts of dropped frames while using a stream encoder via x264 and 4500 kbps bitrate with veryfast encoding and recording encoder in a separate x264, 6000 kbps, verfast encoding. And I mean small, like 1% frame loss, and it goes in pockets, so it is intermittent.

I tried changing to AMD GPU Encoding via H.265. It worked all right–no frame loss–but then it’s output was not readily processed by Windows and also ran into an error in Adobe Premiere.

I tried changing to AMD GPU Encoding via H.264. It failed miserably. Within seconds I had 3000 dropped frames.

I had planned with the 3000 series RTX cards to pick up a 3080 and then move my 2080 TI to my stream build and remove this Radeon 480, but that setup would be overkill. It might be better just to get a cheaper RTX card for the stream PC and leave the 2080 TI in my gaming PC.

For now, I have returned to the dual x264 encoders but decreased the stream to 4000 kbps to see if it helps.

How about you? When you stream and record simultaneously, what settings are you using? Do you use AMD CPU x264? Do you use AMD GPU encoding? Do you use RTX encoding? What do you think I should do in my situation?
